Hit Points (abbreviated HP) refer to the amount of life a player has. If your hit points drop to 0 or below you die.
Hit points can be regained (slowly!) over time. Many guilds have powers that either directly restore HP or enhance their regeneration. In addition there are many items and equipment which provide the same effect.
